Billing, credits, and quotas

What credits, spans, and storage measure, what consumes them, and what happens at a quota boundary.

Noveum reports three independent usage limits: credits, spans, and storage. Open Organization Settings → Usage & Credits for the current billing-period totals and feature availability for your organization.

Credits

Credits pay for premium evaluation and AI-assisted workflows that Noveum performs for you. Current rates are:

OperationCredits
Premium text scorer1 per 4,000 estimated input tokens, rounded up, minimum 1 per item and scorer
Premium audio scorer2 per check; speaking-over-user uses 2 per started audio minute
Scorer labelled Free0
NovaPilot analysis8 per analyzed item, minimum 800 per run
NovaSynth text conversation12 per conversation
NovaSynth voice conversation100 per minute, prorated by second and rounded up
AI Mapper Draft Mapper200 per draft
AI Mapper Suggest Improvements250 per improvement proposal

For example, 500 short items evaluated by five premium text scorers consume 2,500 credits when every check fits within its first 4,000 estimated input tokens. Longer inputs and audio scorers can cost more. Tracing itself does not spend credits; ingested spans count against the span allowance.

If a saved eval-job run uses any premium scorers, it must use at least five. A run with one to four premium scorers is rejected with MIN_PREMIUM_SCORERS_REQUIRED. A run containing only free scorers has no premium-scorer minimum. A one-item ad-hoc Evaluate action is exempt from the five-scorer minimum but still charges for every selected premium scorer and checks the credit balance.

Credits are held in an organization wallet. Included credits refresh for each billing period and expire at its end; purchased top-ups are separate grants. Paid work can reserve credits before execution and settle the final charge afterwards. Available balance excludes held credits. Use Usage & Credits to inspect the available balance, active grants, and their expiry dates.

Spans and storage

Spans are the operations recorded inside traces: LLM calls, retrieval steps, tool calls, and other instrumented work. The allowance counts spans, not conversations or traces, so heavily instrumented applications use it faster.

The current storage counter is reconciled from stored audio and image attachment bytes. Do not use it as a count of dataset rows or ClickHouse trace bytes.

Quota errors

The API rejects work that cannot fit within the applicable quota instead of starting a partially funded run.

Error codeMeaning
CREDIT_QUOTA_EXCEEDEDNot enough credits for the requested work
SPAN_QUOTA_EXCEEDEDThe period's span allowance is exhausted
MIN_PREMIUM_SCORERS_REQUIREDOne to four premium scorers were selected
NOVAPILOT_DISABLEDNovaPilot is disabled for the organization

Eval creation shows a maximum estimate based on all items in the selected dataset. The Run evaluation dialog recalculates the estimate from the current filters, selected premium scorers, and items that still need evaluation. Other workflows show an estimate only where their current dialog provides one.

When a Smart Sampling coordinator reaches the credit limit, it records a paused reason and stops scheduling sampled work until credits are available again. A manually triggered run is still subject to the normal quota check.

Reading the Usage page

Organization Settings → Usage & Credits shows:

  • credits used, available wallet balance, held credits, and active credit grants
  • spans used against the period allowance
  • stored attachment bytes against the storage allowance
  • member usage and enabled product capabilities
  • recent Eval and NovaSynth credit activity

The total credit counter also includes NovaPilot and AI Mapper charges, even though the current recent-activity tabs do not provide a per-run table for those two sources.

Reducing spend

  1. Use Smart Sampling for continuous evaluation, and preview its projected daily cost before saving.
  2. Put scorers labelled Free in the first tier when they match the check you need.
  3. Filter manual runs and leave Skip already evaluated enabled unless you intentionally need fresh results.
  4. Use a top-up pack for a one-off backfill when changing the subscription is unnecessary.

Current free-plan limits

The built-in free plan includes 2,500 monthly credits, 1 million monthly spans, 2 GB of attachment storage, and 3 members. Effective limits and product availability can be overridden for an organization, so the Billing and Usage pages are the source of truth for the active workspace.
