Write for Engineers and Founders on the Same Page

Shashank Agarwal
Engineers and founders can read the same page when it identifies a shared decision and gives each reader the detail needed to assess it. The explanation does not need to become two disconnected articles.
Quick answer: Lead with the user task and decision, then layer implementation evidence and operating consequences. Define technical terms where they affect the conclusion. Keep both audiences anchored to the same scoped example, with optional detail for readers who need to reproduce it.
Choose a shared question
For an illustrative agent-evaluation page, the question might be whether a candidate handles caller corrections appropriately.
The engineer needs the fixture, configuration and operation evidence. The founder needs the user consequence, remaining risk and release decision. Both need an accurate statement of what was established.
| Layer | Content |
|---|---|
| Decision | What is being considered? |
| Example | Which concrete workflow makes it understandable? |
| Evidence | What was observed and under which conditions? |
| Implementation | Which boundary or configuration matters? |
| Consequence | What does the result mean for operation? |
This is a proposed writing structure, not measured evidence that one layout fits every reader.
Define terms through the example
Explain a trace as an execution record relevant to the workflow before listing its fields. Explain a billing unit beside the request that consumes it.
A glossary can help, but the main paragraph should still make sense.
Preserve technical limits
Do not remove a limitation because it looks too technical. Explain its consequence: missing operation evidence means the team cannot confirm completion, for instance.
Conversely, implementation details that do not affect the decision can move to a linked reference.
End with a common next action
Both readers should understand what to inspect or decide next. The acceptance-criteria guide and evaluation-report guide demonstrate useful artifacts around that decision.
