From Technical Publishing to a Product Contract

My history includes technical publishing through Dailyjag and later work on API products. Writing and building meet at a practical question: can someone else understand what the system actually does?

Quick answer: Use an article to explain the user's task, required input, observable output and important limits. Then compare that explanation with the product's actual first experience. Where the prose needs private context or an unsupported promise, improve the contract rather than relying on stronger marketing language.

Start with a reader's decision

For an illustrative extraction product, an article should help the reader decide whether the returned content can support their application.

A broad claim such as “understands any webpage” does not answer which fields are returned or what happens when content cannot be extracted.

Turn the draft into a review

Passage in the draftProduct question
Use caseIs a real supported task described?
SetupCan required inputs and access be understood?
ExampleIs the result labelled and interpretable?
FailureDoes the product expose a useful next step?
Next actionIs the commitment proportionate to the evidence?

This is a proposed editorial method. It reports no conversion lift or customer outcome.

Watch for hidden knowledge

If the writer must explain an undocumented status code from memory, the product contract needs attention. If an example uses a field the current response no longer returns, the example needs revision.

Keep the explanation and implementation aligned rather than treating documentation as a separate promotional layer.

Preserve the historical distinction

My founder profile provides the chronology. Dailyjag's publishing history and today's Noveum/API.market work are separate ventures, not one continuous revenue series.

I recommend treating writing as a product inspection tool: the reader should leave with a decision they can make and evidence they can check.

The API pricing guide is an example of explaining a concrete contract.
