What Repeated Product Building Changes About Priorities

Shashank Agarwal
My history spans publishing, ML infrastructure, API products and current agent-evaluation work. A useful way to connect that history is through the decisions a founder must prioritize.
Quick answer: Prioritize the uncertainty that prevents the next meaningful product decision. Define the evidence a small action should produce, its operating cost and the owner of the follow-up. Keep a successful prototype separate from evidence of repeatable customer value.
Write the decision before the task
For an illustrative API tool, the decision might be whether a developer can integrate its output without custom help. A new landing-page animation would not answer that question.
A controlled first-call review might.
| Candidate action | Uncertainty it can address |
|---|---|
| Inspect a first integration | Whether the contract is understandable |
| Clarify billing units | Whether a buyer can assess the next request |
| Test a failure branch | Whether recovery is defined |
| Review repeat usage | Whether the product supports an ongoing task |
| Add an operation | Whether a documented unmet task can be supported |
This is a proposed prioritization method, not a record of a specific company's roadmap.
Include the maintenance consequence
A new operation creates documentation, support and compatibility responsibilities. An experiment may also leave a dependency that someone must operate.
Record that cost beside the expected learning. A small implementation can still create a long-lived commitment.
Define what would change the decision
Before running the experiment, state which observation would support proceeding, revising or stopping. Preserve counterexamples.
An enthusiastic response is useful feedback, but it is different from a completed integration or a payment.
Keep the founder narrative grounded
My public founder profile provides context. It does not imply that every past venture succeeded or that every lesson has a quantified business outcome.
The acceptance-criteria guide shows the same discipline in engineering: define what evidence should establish before choosing how to produce it.
